Ames Osram launches a new 512 channel ADC for CT detectors

2024-02-27 10:29:37

The world's leading optical solution provider, Ames Osram (Swiss Stock Exchange: AMS), announced today that it has launched its first 512 channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC) AS5912 for CT detectors, using a compact system level packaging solution with a 23mm x 15mm ball gate array (BGA). This ADC has the advantage of high channel density, which allows the CT module to achieve smaller pixels and higher resolution of the CT scanner's imaging quality.

AS5912 adopts system level packaging, integrating silicon wafers and power decoupling capacitors to achieve reliable performance, which can reduce customer BOM costs and facilitate system integration. It is equipped with analog front-end and analog-to-digital conversion on each channel, with a low voltage differential regulator (LDO) and integrated reference voltage and temperature sensors. The on-chip automatic calibration function can reduce the development workload of data acquisition systems.

Meanwhile, this ADC also reduces the complexity of the CT module. Especially the four sided spliceable module composed of a 16 × 32PD array can now be connected only through AS5912.

With the same architecture as the 256 channel AS5911 device, the power to noise ratio of AS5912 reaches the best level in its class, enabling the next generation CT scanners to achieve optimal imaging quality. In low-power mode, the power consumption per channel is 1.25mW, which reduces the self heating effect and makes the temperature control strategy of the CT scanner easier to implement. Noise is the key factor determining imaging quality, with an input current range of 0.5 μ At time A, the input reference noise is below 0.29fC.

Compared to the AS5911 with 256 channels, the new AS5912 has doubled the number of channels in its BGA package, and each channel has a smaller equivalent size. The next generation of high-performance CT scanners for medical and security purposes requires lower complexity and higher performance, therefore, the all-new AS5912 will play a crucial role in the next generation of high-performance CT scanners.

About the ADC product line

After AS5900 (128 channel ADC) and AS5911 (256 channel ADC), Ames Osram has now launched a 512 channel ADC specifically designed for CT detectors. The performance of this series of products is superior to that of dedicated ADC competitors, and the size of the system level packaging is smaller. The ADC series is easy to install in various detector configurations, including CT modules with four side splicing.
